Chapter 9
• How are Grandfather and Papa alike? How are they different?
• Explain how you think Caleb must have felt overhearing the conversation between Papa and Sarah.
3. Sarah showed her bravery by insisting that Grandfather go to Doctor Sam. I think that Papa and Grandfather are alike because they are both stubborn. They are different because Papa tries to keep his children in the world where everything is perfect, but Grandfather does not shield them from the hard truth. I might have felt flushed and a little shocked hearing the conversation.
1. Grandfather and Papa are alike because they both are willing to take risks and they never give up. They also both seem to yell a lot and get mad easily. They are different because grandfather is older, takes pills and doesn’t like kids, however Papa doesn’t take pills and does like children. 2. Caleb must have felt sad and worried because Sarah might leave. She even said she doesn’t like something about Papa (he is unforgiving). Wouldn’t you feel worried and sad if your mom was going to leave? I know I would!
Papa and John are alike by the facts there are both Witting family members. They also both think they are the leaders and are rough. Caleb must have felt heartbroken when he heard Sarah say to Papa that there is something she does not like about him. He gets freaked put when she goes missing and luckily, they find her and he can relax.
This had taken a while to come up with but, here is how they are alike:
• Stubborn as a mule • Passionate about the farm • Uncomfortable around each other • Not good with words ( a) John can’t write/read b) Jacob isn’t good with words) • The first letter of both their names start with “J”
Here is how they are different (this was much easier to come up with):
• John is ready to forgive ‘n forget • John is more knowledgeable about the hazards out in the Midwest • John is dying • John CAN’T read or write • Papa CAN read and write • Papa is only aging • Papa chose deliberately chose to cut down the trees in the west meadow • Papa won’t forgive John
How Caleb felt hearing those words; “I can’t stand the fact that you don’t forgive.” Probably torn a part, stuffed down a grinder, and regurgitated. In other words, sad. Really, really, sad. So sad in fact, that. J.K. I’m not going to bore you with that. The guy had known that Sarah wasn’t falling for the land, but she was for them and Papa. If she went away, it would mean Armageddon for them.
1. Grandfather and papa are alike because they have the same personalty. They are different because they have different opinions on something, which in this case is Grandfather running away.
2. I'm not shooting myself in the foot, but I actullary think he was shocked and saw it coming. He knew that the talk would come, but shocked to see how it went.
1.They are alike in many ways such as they both can do farmwork with ease. However papa tends to have a temper. And grandfather tends to be grouchy. 2. Caleb must have felt shocked and probably a little scared because he never saw Sarah and papa get so angry at each other before.
Papa and Grandfather are alike by them fussing back and pushing each other. They also didn't talk to each other, and they both are very strong. I think Caleb felt like he shouldn't give up for saving papa by what they said."Do it" and "In the shed, Caleb", papa said. Then Sarah said "Get them Caleb". I thought he had one of the most important jobs which was very important to papa.
Grandfather and papa are alike by they both pushed each other when they were in the barn, they both have and horse named, and they both are boys. How they are different is they are different age, they look different, and have different attitudes on events. I think he felt surprised because he had never heard Sarah say what she said to papa before.
Grandfather and Papa are alike because they both grew up on the farm and they are used to the land.I think Caleb might of felt nervous over hearing the conversation.
Papa and Grandfather are alike because they were both born on the farm and different because they have different personalities such as grumpy and angry.
Caleb must have been scared and didn’t know if Sarah wanted to stay with the rest of the family.
How grandfather and papa are alike are.... . Both grew up on farm . Both letters of there name start with J . The land is evereything to them . Both stubborn . Are related to each other . Sarah gets angry at both of them . Both are sad Papa with his dad leaving and Grandfather because he can't read How they are different . Grandfather wants to forgive but papa doesn't . Grandfather is old papa is not . Grandfather has pills papa doesn't . Grandfather can't read papa can I think Caleb is sad about Sarah yelling at papa. He thinks Sarah might leave and get divorced with papa.
P.S. Caleb must have felt like his parents' marriage might have been falling apart because he thought that Sarah loved everything about Papa and to hear Sarah saying something like that must have meant that obviously she didn't love everything abot Papa.
For one, Papa and Grandfather are alike because they are in the same family. I have also noticed that they are very hot headed. They can be different because Papa is more of the instigator and Grandfather just gives Papa what he is already getting. Caleb probably was scared out of his mind because that was the ONLY time that Sarah has EVER said anything negative about Papa. This is terrifying!

I think Caleb felt very embarrassed and sad, and he probably thought papa and grandfather were going to kill each other.
